As excitement for the Qatar 2022 World Cup starting are growing their are updates across the concerned entities that interplay regarding the events.
Deschamps rules out France taking injured stars to Qatar World Cup
Didier Deschamps wants Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba to show that they can contribute to the Qatar 2022 tournament after announcing that he would not bring injured players to the World Cup.
The French coach said that anyone who travels to the final, where the French team defends its title in Russia, should be able to contribute immediately.
Manchester United center-back Varane is not expected to play club football until the start of the Qatar 2022 finals after a leg injury.
Pogba is back in training at Juventus after knee surgery but will not return to work any time soon.
“That’s pretty obvious,” Deschamps said. “I have not started a great league with an injured player, although there are some who can give examples from 2018 with our full-backs, Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibe.
“They’re healed. Then it’s about being fit. And between the time I made the list and what should have happened, it didn’t… Here you go.
“But entering a big competition with players who are not prepared requires a lot of attention, and for whom you have to play, it also requires the direction of the medical staff.
“I think we should go with good, capable players.”
Pogba is still hoping to make an impact on the pitch in his second spell with Juventus, after returning from Serie A giants Manchester United.
There is a strong desire from Deschamps for the midfielder to be on board the flight to Qatar, and Pogba could well return for club games in the coming weeks.
The coach is very sympathetic to the 29-year-old, who has been going through difficult times outside of football lately.
An investigation was opened in August into allegations that Pogba was the subject of a $13 million ($13.01 million) blackmail plot by his brother Matthias and their childhood friends.
Matthias Pogba and four others have been charged in connection with the case and Deschamps considers Paul Pogba a “victim”.
“It was a very difficult moment for him, yes,” Deschamps said.
“I talk to him regularly. He’s a person with a great mentality. Obviously, given his injury, it’s not easy. But mentally he’s fine.”
